Day by day, saved since Oct 29
We started saving each state's count on Oct 29, so the line is short and grows with every report. Each date is the one the office gives for its count, so a first report can be dated a day before we saved it. Nothing earlier is filled in.

California Secretary of State, Ballot Return Statistics
Vote-by-mail ballots returned and accepted, plus ballots cast in person, as reported by the 58 counties to VoteCal. Total is the Secretary of State's TOTAL BALLOTS CAST column. Updated Oct 30, 2:59 AM ET; retrieved Oct 30, 3:40 PM ET.
- The Secretary of State does not publish party registration for returned ballots in this report, so no party figures are shown.
- California mails a ballot to every registered voter, so the state reports ballots issued, not requested, and the mail-requested figure is left out. The report shows 23,450,869 distinct voters issued a vote-by-mail ballot; the count includes voters who have since moved, been made inactive or canceled, so it can exceed a county's registration.
- Mail ballots returned excludes ballots returned as undeliverable, for deceased voters or canceled by the county. Mail ballots accepted is the smaller count the counties have verified so far.
- Total early ballots is the report's TOTAL BALLOTS CAST column. The report's field definition calls it ballots accepted, but in the file it equals mail ballots returned plus in-person ballots cast, so it can exceed mail accepted plus in person.
- In-person means ballots cast at vote centers or polling places and election offices before Election Day, including regular, provisional and conditional ballots. Counties report to VoteCal at different paces.
- The workbook's as-of time is end of day (11:59 PM Pacific) on the file's date.
